Kajaani is the capital and gateway to Arctic
Lakeland. Located beside Lake Oulujärvi, the
5th largest lake in Finland, in Kajaani, you are
never far from a shoreline.
Filled with history, in Kajaani you will find
world’s northernmost castle ruins, which were
built in the 17th century on the eastern border
region of the kingdom in a remote wilderness.
Finnish national epic, Kalevala, was born in
Kajaani and it is not hard to see why - the
forest covered rolling hills and glistening lakes
have inspired artists throughout the centuries.
Today Kajaani is a vibrant city offering various
cultural experiences close to the nature.
