Annual Report of the Board
Seafarers’ Pension Fund 2020 Annual Report
Granted pensions, 2020
Overall, EUR 163.5 million were paid as pensions and benefits,
including those under schemes other than MEL. The net amount of
paid benefits and compensations totalled EUR 165.1 million, which
includes claims incurred and expenses for the maintenance of work
ability activities as well.
The Seafarers’ Pension Fund has not granted any career pensions.
The average age of retirement with pension under MEL increased
slightly, and was 59 years and 3 months. This is due to an increase in
the age of retiring with disability pension. On the other hand, the age
of retirement with old-age pension slightly decreased.
In 2019, the Seafarers’ Pension Fund arranged competitive tendering
for rehabilitation service providers with the aim of improving the
impact of rehabilitation. Contracts between the Fund and service
providers were signed at the start of 2020. The new rehabilitation
partners are Spring House Oy, Härmän Kuntoutus Oy and
Työvalmennus Futuuri Oy. The new process and collaborative model
were taken into use during the course of 2020. According to feedback
from seafarers undergoing rehabilitation as well as the service providers,
the collaborative model is useful as it shortens the rehabilitation
process and makes it more efficient. The rehabilitation cases funded by
the Fund are managed within the online system KuntoutuNET.
