Your background in the dental field is very interesting
and spans several decades. Could you tell us about it?
“Indeed, I’ve been in the dental business for quite a long time now.
My father was the original founder of a company called Gendex
Ed McDonough is no stranger to Corporation, which was founded in 1983 when he and some of
the dental industry, as he already has his partners acquired the dental X-ray division of General Electric.
a great career behind him – one covering I was in college at the time, but joined the company soon after I
several decades and companies in got out of school and stayed with it for a number of years.
We built the business significantly, grew very rapidly, took it
the field. Recently McDonough brought public, and ultimately sold it to Dentsply. I stayed there running
his talents to Planmeca USA and is now what became the Gendex division of the company for about
looking to lead the company to the next a year and then left and started my own company, Progeny Dental,
level in the United States. which was also in the dental imaging business.
We started Progeny from scratch, built the company up over
time, and ended up selling it to Midmark Corporation a few years
ago. After the sale, I had a non-compete clause that had to run
out, so I took a little time off. However, in the meantime I was in
conversation with Planmeca about possibilities with them. Luckily
for me, those talks eventually advanced and I was able to join
                                                                the company in this role.”
